Official Ivy League Release
ITHACA, N.Y. – For the fifth consecutive year, a member of the Cornell women's hockey team has won the Ivy League Player of the Year honor and for the sixth time in seven years, a Big Red player has been named Rookie of the Year. This year is no different as junior forward
Jillian Saulnier was named Co-Player of the Year and forward
Hanna Bunton received Rookie of the Year, as announced by the league office today.
Saulnier, along with Co-Player of the Year Emerance Marschmeyer from Harvard, was unanimously voted to the Ivy-League first-team. She had Bunton are joined by six other Big Red players who earned recognition from the conference on Thursday. Cornell's eight players on the All-Ivy teams are more than any other Ivy League school.
Saulnier is the fifth consecutive Ivy League Player of the Year for the Big Red after
Brianne Jenner won last year, Rebecca Johnston '12 claimed the award in 2012,
Laura Fortino won it in 2011, and Catherine White '12 won during her sophomore year in 2010. She has had one game with four points and five games with three points this season. She led the Ivy League with seven goals and 10 assists and is second in ECAC Hockey with 19 goals and 18 assists for 37 points. She was also a First Team selection last year.
Bunton led the league for freshmen scoring with three goals and six assists. It is the sixth time in seven years that a Cornell player has won Rookie of the Year (Saulnier in 2012, Jenner in 2011,
Lauriane Rougeau in 2010, White in 2009, and Johnston in 2008).
Saulnier and defender
Alyssa Gagliardi were unanimous All-Ivy first team selections by the league's coaches, while junior
Emily Fulton also made the First Team.
Gagliardi is tied for first in the league for defenseman scoring with four goals and six assists. She also has a team-high 85 blocks and was named All-Ivy honorable mention last year.
Fulton is the Big Red's second-highest scorer with 17 goals and 22 assists and has had three games in which she has scored four points, including a career-high five point performance against Northeastern earlier this year.
Senior forward
Jessica Campbell made the league's second team.
Campbell was named second team All-Ivy for the second consecutive year after leading the league in power-play goals with three. She's third in scoring for the Big Red, with 11 goals and 20 assists.
Earning honorable mention All-Ivy is defenders
Hayleigh Cudmore and
Cassandra Poudrier, as well as senior goaltender
Lauren Slebodnick.
Cudmore, one of Cornell's four seniors, has been a core part of the Big Red's defense, scoring seven goals and adding 15 assists this season.
Poudrier, along with Cudmore on the defensive end, has 38 blocks on the season and was tied for third in the league for defenders scoring with one goal and seven assists.
Slebodnick led the league with winning percentage (.786), posting a 5-1-1 Ivy Record. She has the second-lowest goals-against average for the league with 2.18 and is Cornell's all-time winningest goaltender in women's hockey with 66 wins.
