ITHACA, N.Y. – For the second straight season, Cornell gymnastics outpaced the field en route to a Big Red Invitational team title. The Big Red scored a 189.575 to hold off Southern Connecticut (188.525), with Ithaca College taking third (171.825) on Saturday afternoon at Teagle Gymnasium.
Cornell narrowly missed its third meet of 190.0 or better despite its dominance on bars. Cornell had the top five finishers on the event with Lexi Schupp leading the way at 9.850, ahead of teammates
Elana Molotsky (9.725),
Melanie Jorgensen (9.575),
Elise Kerner (9.500) and
Mackenzie Sato (9.500) rounded out the top five.
Lexi Schupp also won on floor with a 9.750 and the all-around at 37.275.
Alicia Bair was second on vault (9.725) and Jessie Starcevich placed third on beam (9.550) to lead the big Red on those events.
Cornell will head to Towson, Md. Next weekend for the four-team Shelli Calloway Invitational at Towson. The Big Red will compete against the host Tigers, as well as Ursinus and Temple.
