ESTERO, Fla. —
Andy Iles, the Cornell men's hockey team's all-time saves leader, has signed a professional contract with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL, the team announced Tuesday afternoon. Iles will report to the team this week and is expected to be available for the club's Wednesday night home game against Evansville.
Iles recently concluded a storied career with his hometown Big Red, racking up a 58-42-17 record, 2.26 goals-against average and .917 save percentage with nine shutouts. After splitting starts his freshman season and earning a spot on the All-ECAC Hockey Rookie Team, Iles was the Big Red's iron man over the following three seasons. He has started 101 of the Big Red's last 102 games, and had the third-longest consecutive start streak in NCAA Division I history (80). His 2,988 career saves are the most in program history, having passed Ben Scrivens '10 on the list in a Feb. 28 game against Dartmouth.
Iles was named the ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year and is one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award. He is a two-time All-ECAC Hockey Second Team selection and won the league's Goaltender of the Week award nine times over his career.
Iles is familiar with the Everblades, having played six career games at Germain Arena – the team's home facility – as part of the annual Florida College Classic from 2012 to 2014. He was named the Most Valuable Player of this year's tournament, helping the Big Red win the tournament by stopping eight of nine shootout attempts in the tie-breaker in the championship game against Maine.
