ITHACA, N.Y. — Hockey Canada has announced that
Doug Derraugh will serve as the head coach for the Canada National Women's Team for the upcoming season.
Derraugh is the Cornell women's hockey program's all-time winningest head coach, entering his 10th season at the helm. He will continue to lead the Big Red for the 2014-15 campaign and is expected to miss minimal game action as he works with Team Canada.
Derraugh has experience with Canada's national program after serving as an assistant coach for the 2011-12 season, which produced a gold medal at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship. That squad featured four Cornellians — Rebecca Johnston, Laura Fortino, Lauriane Rougeau and Brianne Jenner
Tim Bothwell and Dwayne Gylywoychuk have been named Derraugh's assistants.
"The 2014-15 season begins a new Olympic cycle for the women's program, and a crucial time to build on our success in Sochi," said Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada's general manager of national women's team programs and former Big Red head coach, in Hockey Canada news release. "Doug, Tim and Dwayne have all worked with our program and bring great international and club team experience to the team."
