Women’s Lacrosse Boasts Five All-Ivy Selections

Full Release by Ivy League

PRINCETON, N.J. – Cornell women's lacrosse was well represented on the All-Ivy Teams, which were released this afternoon by the League office. The Big Red placed five players on either the First or Second Team, marking the most selections the squad has had since also placing five in 2012. Senior co-captain Lindsay Toppe and sophomore Amie Dickson highlighted the group with unanimous First Team All-Ivy selection, while junior Emily Tripodi and seniors Sarah Hefner and Claire MacManus garnered Second Team All-Ivy recognition.

Toppe did not miss a beat in her senior season. The reigning Ivy League Attacker of the Year came into 2015 with big expectations, as she was named to the Tewaaraton Top-50 Watch List shortly before the season kicked off at Temple at the end of February. She did not disappoint, finishing second in the League in goals scored with 43, while ranking fourth in overall scoring with 51 points. One of the Big Red's quickest, strongest and most skilled players, Toppe tied her own record with seven goals versus Cal. She finished with eight hat tricks on the season, adding five goals in a game twice (v Princeton and Temple) and four goals in three games (Yale, Brown and Penn State).  Lindsay has also recorded a hat trick in two other games (Albany and Dartmouth). One of our best riding attackers, Toppe finished with 17 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers and 12 draw controls.  She broke Cornell's record for goals in a career (previously held by Jaimee Reynolds) midway through her senior season, currently sitting at 148 for her career. She finished as a three-time First Team All-Ivy selection

Dickson enjoyed a fantastic breakout season during her second year on East Hill. After chipping in five goals and five assists during her freshman year, she completely obliterated that mark, finishing with an Ivy League leading 59 points in 2015. Her field vision was extraordinary from the midfield position and she has been a wonderful compliment to Lindsay Toppe as a scoring threat.  In addition to leading the League in points, she finished first in assists (31) and assists per game (2.07), and fifth in both draw controls (46) and ground balls (27). She had eight points versus Cal, six points against Penn, Harvard and Colgate, five points vs Temple, Albany, Binghamton, and Syracuse, and four points against Stanford. She also added 11 caused turnovers on the year.

Hefner had a strong conclusion to her Big Red career in 2015, garnering Second Team All-Ivy selection for the second time in her career. One of the Cornell's strongest two-way players during the year, she finished with 14 goals and 19 points, while also causing nine turnovers. An integral part of Cornell's excellent draw control game, she finished second on the team with 36 draw controls on the season. She shattered the program's all-time record for the statistic earlier this season against Cal, finishing the regular season with 159 for her career.

MacManus was the Big Red's heart and soul on the defensive zone, earning Second Team All-Ivy selection for the second consecutive season. Her experience and excellent communication in the defensive third has allowed Cornell to implement an aggressive approach in its own zone this season. She has been responsible for taking on the toughest assignments, while she has been instrumental in helping the Big Red break the ride in the transition game. She finished with 23 ground balls and nine caused turnovers on the year.

Tripodi continued to tear it up in the assist department during her junior season. One of the top feeders in the history of the program, she finished second on the team and third in the League with 28 helpers in 2015. She also chipped in a career-high 16 goals during the regular season. She record four assists in a game three times this season (Temple, Columbia, Stanford), while she recorded multiple assists in four other contests this season. She was named Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Week two times this season.

Cornell's five selections finished in a tie for second in the Ivy League, as Princeton and Harvard each had five picks as well. Penn led the Ivy League with six selections overall. Cornell was one of three program's to have two unanimous selections on the first team.

The Big Red will look to take-home its first Ivy League Tournament title this weekend when it travels to Princeton, N.J. Cornell will play in the first of two semifinals on Friday when it will face the No. 2 seed Penn at 4:05 p.m.
