BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Cornell gymnastics posted its third straight meet at 192.000 or better to open a season for the first time in school history and set a team record on beam on Sunday afternoon at Bridgeport's Wheeler Recreation Center.
The Big Red hit big time on beam, scoring a 48.775 to surpass the previous record of 48.700 set back in 2004. Cornell placed the top three gymnasts on the event, with
Kaitlin Green posting a 9.875, just off her record 9.900 set last weekend.
Lyanda Dudley and
Joy Gage tied for second with 9.775 scores. All five scorers scored 9.675 or better on the apparatus.
Cornell ended the day with a 192.225 score, behind Bridgeport's 194.175.
Alicia Bair posted a second place effort on vault with a 9.650, breaking up a what otherwise been a top five sweep by Bridgeport. Green finished third on bars with a 9.750 and
Elana Molotsky was one spot behind with a 9.725. Molotsky and Dudley were the top finishers on floor, each scoring a 9.700 to tie for sixth overall.
The Big Red will open its home schedule with a tri-meet against Penn and Cortland on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 3 p.m. at Teagle Gymnasium.
