Gillam Earns Season's Fourth Goalie of the Week Honor

ITHACA, N.Y. — For the fourth time this season, junior Mitch Gillam has been named the men's ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week. The league announced the honor or Tuesday after Gillam backstopped the Big Red to a successful trip through Harvard and Dartmouth last weekend.

Gillam made 33 saves in each game against an Ivy League rival, helping #16 Cornell come from behind twice to earn a 2-2 tie on Friday against #12/12 Harvard. The Big Red then went on to defeat Dartmouth, 1-0, on the strength of a goal from junior forward Jeff Kubiak and Gillam's sixth shutout of the season. That's tied for third-most in the country and it ranks fifth on the program's all-time single-season list, matching marks set by Andy Iles (2011-12) and Ken Dryden (1967-68).

Gillam, who was named a Hobey Baker Award candidate last month, has now been named the league's goaltender of the week five times in his career. He was also named Player of the Week earlier this season, and once earned Rookie of the Week honors two years ago. With last weekend's performance, he has re-emerged in the top 10 in the nation in goals-against average (eighth; 1.94) and save percentage (seventh; .933).

Cornell (13-8-6, 8-7-5 ECAC Hockey) returns home this weekend with 7 p.m. games Friday against Union and Saturday against Rensselaer at Lynah Rink.
