Doug Derraugh is one of three finalists for the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year Award, as announced Tuesday by the league. Joining Derraugh as a finalist for the award are Matt Desrosiers of Clarkson and Chris Wells of St. Lawrence.
Derraugh has led the Big Red to an overall record of 19-7-5 this season and has the program in its 10th consecutive ECAC Hockey Tournament. Projected to finish sixth in this season's women's coaches' preseason poll, the Big Red ended up with a 13-4-5 record, the third-best conference record. Derraugh, who was voted the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2013, was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year last week after guiding Cornell to its 13th Ivy League championship. As a team, Cornell hit the 550 win-mark on Jan. 20 against Clarkson (221 of which have come under Derraugh).This is Derraugh's 12th season behind the bench for the Big Red.
The winner of the award will be announced on Friday at the ECAC Hockey Championship banquet.
The #7 Big Red will take on #4 St. Lawrence at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 4 at Clarkson's Cheel Arena in one of two ECAC Hockey Tournament semifinals. Princeton will battle the hosts of the tournament, #3 Clarkson, in the other semifinal. The title game will be played on Sunday, March 5 at 2 p.m.
