Anderson Signs With Denmark's Herlev Eagles

ITHACA, N.Y. — Senior defenseman Holden Anderson has signed a contract for the 2017-18 season with the Herlev Eagles of the Metal Ligaen, the premier hockey league in Denmark.

A tenacious defender, Anderson worked his way into a full-time role with the Big Red in his senior season and helped the team post the 10th-best goals against average in the country (2.31). He was a regular penalty killer and possessed the team's most vaunted slap shot.

Anderson also showed his versatility over 78 career games by playing periodically as a forward. While filling in up front, he scored a memorable goal on a deflection to give the Big Red the lead over Boston University at the 2015 Red Hot Hockey game at Madison Square Garden in New York. He later scored the only goal in Cornell's 1-0 win over Union in Game 1 of a first-round playoff series last year.

With Anderson's deal, six of Cornell's eight seniors on the 2016-17 squad have signed with professional teams after leading the Big Red to the program's 20th trip to the NCAA tournament. He's the second to latch on with a European club, joining Jake Weidner after his signing with Germany's Iserlohn Roosters.
