5/30/2017 3:00:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell Head Football Coach David Archer '05 and his staff are excited to announce the newest members of the Big Red Football family. The Class of 2021, featuring 32 members, joins a Cornell football program building momentum.

Hailing from 16 states and one Canadian province, the class of 2021 will attempt to help secure the Big Red's first Ivy title on the gridiron since 1990. A class-high six recruits played high school football in Pennsylvania and four join the Big Red from New York and Ohio. Georgia, Minnesota, North Carolina and Tennessee provide two student-athletes apiece and nine other states send one player each to Ithaca. In all, 17 of the players will join the offense, 13 will aid the defense and two will concentrate on special teams.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Big Red brings in five defensive back/safeties, three linebackers and five defensive linemen. Cornell went for plenty of skill players on the offense, bringing in eight wide receivers, a running back, two quarterbacks and one tight end. The offensive line will also be bolstered with the addition of five student-athletes who average 6-4 and 291 pounds. Cornell also added a place-kicker and long snapper for next season.

The Big Red opens the 2017 season at perennial FCS power Delaware on Saturday, Sept. 16 in Newark, Del.
