Samantha Widmann Named Ivy League Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – For the first time this season a Big Red women's basketball player has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week with Samantha Widmann taking home the honor for the first time in her career.

Widmann earns the honor after leading Cornell to its first Ivy League win of the season with a 22-point, 12-rebound double-double at Columbia on Saturday. For the game, she shot better than 70 percent from the floor (10-of-14) and chipped in three steals and one assist. The game was Widmann's fifth 20-point performance on the season, as well as her second double-double.

A sophomore from Lawrenceville, N.J., Widmann was named Ivy Rookie of the Week twice during her freshman campaign, and currently leads the team in points (15.3), rebounds (5.9) and steals (2.8) per game.

The Big Red is back in action this weekend when it plays host Columbia in the return game of the home-and-home series at Newman Arena on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. The game will be part of the program's annual Kids Day double-header with the men's team tipping off at 4 p.m.
