ITHACA, N.Y. -- Consistency and depth - those two characteristics led the Cornell gymnastics team to a season-high team score and atop the podium in the Big Red Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Teagle Gymnasium. The team's 193.625 easily topped the four-team field as the Big Red won three of the four team events.
Cornell took the lead on its second rotation, bars, before ripping off three consecutive rotations with a 48.400 or better to lengthen out its win. The 193.625 was more than a full point higher than its previous season-best, a 192.500 at Cortland on Jan. 21.
The Big Red earned the team win despite not having an individual champion. Maci Prescott took second on vault (9.750) to lead four Cornellians in the top seven, while Amy Shen took second on bars (9.800) among six of the top seven finishers in the event for the home team. Samantha Henry was the runner-up on floor with a 9.850 and was one of three Big Red gymnasts in the top six.
Izzy Herczeg (9.750) finished third on beam among three Big Red gymnasts in the top six finishers in the event.
Cornell will visit Penn State for a tri-meet with the Nittany Lions and Ivy rival Penn on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m.
