POTSDAM, N.Y. – Four from the women's hockey team earned postseason awards, as announced at the ECAC Hockey banquet on Friday night. Cornell had one player named to each of the four all-league teams with three of them being named finalists for major awards.
Kristin O'Neill earned ECAC Hockey First Team accolades following a conference season that saw her rank in the top six in six major statistical categories. O'Neill led the league in short-handed goals with three in conference play while also tying for first nationally in the same category with four. She also tied for first in ECAC Hockey in game winners (5) and checks in at No. 2 in the country with seven. The forward also closed out the regular season tied for third in the league in points (27) and power play goals (4) while tying for fifth in goals (12) and tying for sixth in assists (15).
The sophomore captain was also one of four finalists for the league's Best Forward award. Loren Gabel from Clarkson was bestowed with the honor while Princeton's Carly Bullock and Jessie Eldridge were the other candidates. This is the second year in a row that O'Neill has earned recognition from the league as she was voted to the All-Rookie team last season.
The Big Red's
Jaime Bourbonnais was Second Team All-League, marking the second-straight year she has garnered league accolades as she was put on the 2017 All-Rookie team along with O'Neill. In conference-only games, Bourbonnais was tied for second in defenseman scoring (19) from three goals and 16 assists. Her assist count was the fifth most amongst other ECAC Hockey players while her overall point tally of 22 (3G, 19A) in all regular-season games has her ranked 11th in the nation in defenseman points per game (.73).
The sophomore was also one of three others in the running for Best Defenseman. Lauren Wildfang from Colgate was the other finalist while Clarkson's Savannah Harmon came away with the distinction.
Notching Third Team All-League honors was senior captain
Sarah Knee. At the conclusion of the conference season, Knee sat at sixth in defenseman scoring with 17 points with four goals and 13 assists. Her assist count was tied for the 13th most. In the national rankings, she is 18th in defenseman points per game, averaging .69 points per contest.
Rounding out the quartet of Cornellians picking up postseason league awards was
Maddie Mills, who made the All-Rookie team. The freshman ranked in the top six in four different league scoring categories. Mills was tied for first in power play goals (6), third in freshman scoring (20), tied for fifth in goals (12) and tied for sixth in game winners (3). Amidst all other players in the country, the forward is tied for fourth overall in power play goals (8), checks in at No. 8 in rookie points per game (1.03) and is tied for ninth in game winners (5).
Additionally, the Sewickley, Pennsylvania, native was in contention for the Rookie of the Year award along with Harvard's Becca Gilmore and winner Elizabeth Giguere from Clarkson.
