Gymnastics Takes Fifth At ECAC Championship

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Cornell gymnastics team surpassed 193.000 for the third straight meet and the fifth time this season, clinching a spot at USAG Collegiate Nationals as a team after placing fifth at the 2018 ECAC Championship on Saturday afternoon at The Palestra.

The Big Red finished just behind Penn (193.200) with its 193.150 score. Yale won the meet with a 195.325, nearly a full point ahead of William & Mary (194.575). Brown took third (194.025), while Temple placed sixth (192.550).

Amy Shen was the top individual finisher for the Big Red with a second-place effort on vault (9.800), while teammate Izzy Herczeg was fifth (9.775). She was matched by Madison Smith (9.850) and Samantha Henry (9.850), who tied for second on floor. Lauren Wong was the lone Big Red finisher in the top 10 on bars, as her 9.725 score was good for seventh. Shen also took 12th on beam (9.725) to lead Cornellians in the event.

The Big Red will be back in action beginning on April 14 at the USAG Collegiate National Championships at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas.
