Gymnastics Finishes Fourth At USAG Collegiate Nationals

DENTON, Texas – For the season straight season, the Cornell gymnastics team placed fourth at the USAG Collegiate National Championship. The Big Red posted a 193.650 team score in the evening to finish behind host Texas Woman's (196.525), Lindenwood (195.800) and Air Force (195.675) on Saturday evening at Kitty Magee Arena.

Cornell, as the lowest seeded team remaining in the field, started on floor and opened slowly. After the first rotation, a solid 48.500, the Big Red sat fourth. Both Izzy Herczeg (9.875) and Madison Smith (9.825) went over 9.800, while Amy Shen wasn't far behind (9.750).

With vault up second, Cornell quickly completed its rotation with a 48.450 with the Big Red's lowest counting score a 9.625. Shen led the team with a 9.750, while Claire Haklik posted a 9.725.

Cornell rallied after an early fall on bars to score a 48.600, including a 9.825 from Shen to close out the rotation. All five scorers hit for 9.650 or better.

The Big Red ended on beam with a 48.100, with Shen and Payton Murphy leading the way with 9.750. Shen 39.075 all-around score ranked third on the evening.
