Women's Soccer Falls At Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Cornell women's soccer team dropped its third Ivy League game of the season, falling to Yale, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon in New Haven, Conn. Yale scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game, a deficit the Big Red could not recover from.

Mary Kuder and Maggie Westfal scored early in the first half as the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead into the break. Nearly 20 minutes after halftime, the Bulldogs again struck quickly, scoring twice on markers from Emma Whitfield and Natalia Mann just two minutes apart. Natalie Romine tacked on the final goal of the contest in the 75th minute for the final margin.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Big Red for the match, 18-7, with Cornell goalkeeper Jodi Palmer picking up five saves in the defeat. Yale goalkeeper Susan Starr started and made four saves in the first 68 minutes before being lifted for Ayana Sumiyasu, who picked up one save in the final 22 minutes.

Yale improves to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the Ancient Eight with the victory, while Cornell falls to 4-8 on the year and 0-3 in league play.

Cornell, in search of its first Ivy League win of the season and to snap a five-game losing streak, will return home on Sun., Oct. 21, for a noon contest against Brown at Berman Field.
