NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Big Red men's tennis team completed its play in the main draw of the ITA Northeast Regionals on Sunday. Andy Gauthier won four matches in the consolation round to advance to the finals. He will play Kendrick Au of Brown on Monday.
Gauthier picked up a win over Drexel's Carlo Panglinan (6-4, 6-4), before playing past Penn State's Chris Hasyn (3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6)). In the next round he lost his opening set, 5-7, but came back to win the next 6-4, 1-0 (8) over Temple's Filip Rams. In the semifinals, he defeated Boston College's Akash Muppidi, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (5).
In doubles play, Doppelt and Goldstein lost, 8-5, to Brown's Garland and Gardner. Also in the third round, Feldman and Gauthier lost to Ermakov and Vergosin of Harvard, 9-7.
In the third round of singles play, Jon Jaklitsch lost to Columbia's Mihai Nichofor, 6-1, 6-2. Josh Goldstein lost to Columbia's Jonathan Wong, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6. Jeremy Feldman won his opening set over Princeton's Peter Capkovic, but the No. 3 seed bounced back to win the next two 7-6, 6-4. Columbia's Ekin Sezgen defeated Jon Fife, 6-4, 6-4.
