PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A goal in each half was enough to send the Brown men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Cornell on Saturday night in Providence, R.I. Cornell fell to 1-12 on the year and 0-4 in the Ivy League, while Brown improves to 9-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Ancient Eight.
Brown got on the board in the 35th minute when Darren Howerton ripped a shot from the left side from 20 yards out that beat Cornell goalkeeper
Steve Lesser, making his second start in a row and third of the year.
The Bears took that 1-0 lead into the break and made it 2-0 with a goal by Iain Eldredge that was assisted by Jon Okafor in the 65th minute.
Lesser made four saves in taking the loss for the Big Red, while Brown netminder Paul Grandstrand picked up two saves.
Cornell returns to action with its third straight game away from Ithaca, playing at Hartwick on Tuesday in a 7 p.m. contest in Oneonta, N.Y.
