Lena Russomagno with just nine seconds remaining in regulation to knot the score and send the game into overtime, but Dartmouth managed to score just 6:41 into the extra stanza to take the 3-2 victory away from Berman Field on Saturday night.
Dartmouth (8-6-2, 2-4-1 Ivy) got the game-winner from Becky Poskin after Myra Sack flicked a header into the box to lead Poskin into a one-on-one with Cornell goalie
Jodi Palmer. Poskin scored on a low, hard shot into the left-hand side of the goal.
The Big Green, who took an early 2-0 lead in the first half of play, got on the board in just the fourth minute when Poskin carried the ball down the left sideline before slotting it ahead to Peyton Teta, who ripped a shot to the far post.
Just over 30 minutes later, Dartmouth was awarded a corner kick and Maggie Goldstein sent the ball into the box. Thea Sutton collected the ball and sent it across the mouth of the goal to Sarah Bromley, who calmly buried it in the back of the net to make it a 2-0 game.
Cornell, which only took four shots in the first half, stepped up the offense pressure in the second half and finally cracked the scoring column in the 82
nd minute when Russomango carried the ball down the right sideline and then sent a cross to freshman
Brook Chang, who headed the ball into the net to make it a 2-1 game and set up Dixon's heroics.
Dartmouth outshot the Big Red 39-15 and held an 11-6 edge in corners. Palmer made 12 saves in goal, while freshman
Samantha Wright earned a crucial save during a Big Green corner kick as she headed a ball off the goal line in the 89
th minute to keep Cornell within a goal.
Big Green goalie Anna Chinco made just one save and didn't allow a goal in the first 65:27 before giving way to Colleen Hogan, who made three saves and allowed both goals in the final 24:33. Chinco came back in at the start of halftime and made her final save of the day to earn the victory.
Cornell ends the 2008 campaign with a 2-12-1 record overall and a mark of 1-6 in the Ivy League.
