ITHACA, N.Y.--The Big Red men's tennis team completed the first day of the Cornell Fall Outdoor Invitational on Friday. Play was plagued by rainy conditions, but teams were able to utilize the indoor courts at the Reis Tennis Center. Cornell advances seven players in the singles main draw and five doubles pairs.
In flight A singles, the Big Red advanced four players to the quarterfinals. John Jaklitsch will face teammate Kyle Doppelt on Saturday, while Josh Goldstein takes on UMBC's Nick Savage-Pollack. Jeremy Feldman will play Stony Brook's Ivan Rummer.
In flight B singles, Connor Sherwood will play fellow Big Red teammate Bryant Yung. Andy Gauthier is set to play UMBC's Chris Meyer.
In flight A doubles, Cornell advanced three pairs to the quarterfinals. Gauthier and Feldman will play Middlebury's Bonfiglio and Peters. Doppelt and Goldstein will take on UMBC's Adewumi/Meyer, and Mirza Klis and Marc Ash will play St. Bonaventure's Post and Mochizuki.
In the quarterfinals of flight B doubles, Yung and Bhandari will take the court against St. Bonaventure's Luc and Valdenegro. Evan Bernstein and Sherwood will also face a duo from St. Bonaveture, Larregola and Reppert.
Play begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Reis Tennis Center.
