Joe Yonga scored a goal in the 88th minute to cut the Cornell deficit to 2-1, but that would turn out to be the final score as the Big Red fell to New Hampshire to open the second day of play at the Days Inn Classic in Lewisburg, Pa. Cornell falls to 0-4 on the year while New Hampshire remains unbeaten on the season at 4-0-2.
The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead as Mike McKee headed home a back-post corner kick from Kyle Urso in the fifth minute, though the two teams would play a scoreless remainder of the first half.
New Hampshire went ahead 2-0 in the 67th minute when, after another Wildcat corner kick, the ball was free in the penalty area when Joe Corsello slotted home a shot through traffic.
Cornell got on the board in the 88th minute when Yonga headed home a corner kick by
Kevin Vieira, but the Big Red was not able to get a shot off in the closing seconds to equalize the score and force extra time.
Scott Brody, making his third consecutive start in goal, made four saves, while New Hampshire's Chris Devine made five stops for the victory.
Cornell will return to Ithaca for its home opener against Albany at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Berman Field.
