ITHACA, N.Y.—The Big Red men's tennis team secured four titles at the Cornell Fall Outdoor Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Jon Fife won the Flight A singles consolation bracket, while Andy Gauthier took home the Flight B main draw title. For the first time in the history of the tournament, the Big Red swept the doubles matches and the winner will be decided between teammates on Tuesday afternoon.
In Flight A singles, John Jaklitsch lost a close match (6-1, 4-6, 6-2) to Ivan Rummel of Stony Brook in the finals to take second. In Flight A singles consolation play, Fife defeated Stony Brook's Ilan Shavartz, 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 to win the title.
After dropping the first set, Gauthier came back to defeat teammate Connor Sherwood, 5-7, 6-0, 7-5 in the finals of Flight B singles.
In doubles play, in Flight A doubles, the duo of Feldman and Gauthier won a 9-7 match over UMBC's Savage-Pollock and Voorman to advance to the finals. Doppelt and Goldstein teamed up to play past their teammate's Ash and Klis, 9-8. The two teams will play for the title on Tuesday afternoon.
In Flight B doubles, Bhandari and Yung won in their semifinal round, 9-8, over UMBC's Dixon and Bricker. They will play Cornell's Bernstein and Sherwood, who defeated Stony Brook's Dil and Shavartz, 9-7, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Big Red will travel to Flushing, N.Y. to the National Tennis Center on Sept. 19-21 for the Men's College Tennis Invitational.
