EASTON, Pa. -- Senior Joe Yonga's game-winning goal in the 43rd minute of the match proved to be the difference in the contest as the Cornell men's soccer team defeated Lafayette, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon in Easton, Pa. Cornell picks up its first win of the season to improve to 1-5, while Lafayette falls to 3-4-1 on the year.

Cornell got on the board first, as Matt Bouraee capitalized on a Leopard miscue on the back line as a defender slipped and fell to the turf. Bouraee picked up the loose ball and slotted home a shot past goalkeeper Andrew Pianko.

Lafayette drew even in the 39th minute as Wayne Maminski put in his second goal of the season, taking a pass from Mike Celentano and beating Cornell goalkeeper Scott Brody.

Four minutes later, though, Yonga put the Big Red ahead to stay with his second goal of the season and his career, scoring an unassisted strike past Pianko.

Lafayette held the upper hand in most of the statistical categories, including a 16-7 edge in shots and a 6-0 margin in corner kicks, but the Big Red was able to hold the Leopards off over the final 45 minutes.

Pianko made five saves, while Brody picked up four stops in the victory.

Cornell returns to action on Friday, taking on Binghamton in a 7 p.m. contest at Berman Field.
