ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Joe Devin notched the second two-goal game of his career to lead Cornell to a 5-1 win over Brown in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action on Saturday night at Lynah Rink. The Big Red bounced back from Friday's 4-3 setback against Yale, marking the seventh consecutive time the team has followed a loss with a victory, a string dating back to last February.

Michael Kennedy, Sean Collins and Blake Gallagher each added a goal and an assist in pushing Cornell to 14-2-3 (9-1-2 ECAC Hockey), while Brown falls to 2-13-4 (2-8-3 ECAC Hockey). Brown freshman goalie Michael Clemente made 31 saves on the evening, while Big Red netminder Ben Scrivens turned aside 14 shots.

Cornell found itself on the power play nine times in the game, putting up a total of 18 shots, but the Big Red managed to convert on just one, thanks to strong play by Clemente. The number is also deceiving, as the Big Red added a pair of goals within five seconds of the conclusion of a power play.

The Big Red got things started quickly as Brown tried to clear the zone early in the first period. The puck was sent along the left boards where Kennedy intercepted it outside the faceoff circle. He ripped a shot that hit the back post of the net and popped out with referee Peter Feola signaling goal before the sellout crowd - and the goal judge - had a chance to react. The marker gave Cornell a lead it would never relinquish with just 98 seconds gone, but it would be all the scoring in the opening session.

Devin got his first tally at the 6:18 mark of the second, exactly as a slashing penalty to Brown's Jordan Pietrus expired. Locke Jillson fed a pass from the goal line at Clemente's left to Kennedy at the top of the slot, where he ripped a shot that Devin redirected underneath the pads of the freshman netminder for the eventual game winner.

Coming out of the second intermission trailing 2-0, the Bears' Jarred Smith beat Scrivens on a two-on-one at 0:51 of the period, coming one second after Dan Nicholls was released for a second-period minor.

Three-and-a-half minutes later, Scrivens lost track of the puck in a scrum in front of the net, but recovered in time to cover it. Two minutes after that, Cornell put the game out of reach as Gallagher dug the puck off the right boards at the red line and passed it backwards through his legs to a streaking Devin. He started a two-on-one and faked a pass back to Gallagher before ripping a shot that beat Clemente to the near post. He was denied his bid for the hat trick with 10 seconds remaining as his attempt rang off the knob of Clemente's stick.

The Big Red returns to action next week with a three-point ECAC Hockey lead over second-place Yale. Cornell travels to the North Country, taking on St. Lawrence Friday night at 7 p.m. at Appleton Arena, before taking on Clarkson the following night.
