ITHACA, N.Y.—The Big Red men's squash team picked up its fourth-straight win with a 6-3 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at the Belkin International Squash Courts. Cornell improved to 9-2 overall this season and is 3-2 in Ivy play. The Big Red is currently in third place among the Ancient Eight and is fourth nationally.
The Big Red and Big Green traded wins back and forth in the top of the order, but with wins at positions 7-9 Cornell pulled through with the victory.
Chris Sachvie and Alex Domenick shutout their opponents 3-0 at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively. Cornell and Dartmouth each earned two wins in 3-2 matches. At the No. 7 spot, McKay Claghorn defeated Tyler Young in the fifth in final game (9-3, 8-10, 9-7, 6-9, 9-7), while
Amar Gupta notched a come-from-behind victory at the eighth position (6-9, 9-0, 6-9, 9-4, 9-6).
“The team played really well today, especially after having two matches yesterday,” Big Red head coach
Mark Devoy said about his team's performance. “They did what they had to do, and have been playing wonderfully in the big matches. They played really well as a team, and it is good to see them learning how to play in the tougher matches. The top of our order has played well this weekend and is really stepping up.”
Cornell will play its final match of the weekend on Sunday morning when it plays host to Williams at 10 a.m.
