ITHACA, N.Y. -- Making his first career start, freshman goalkeeper Rick Pflasterer made 11 saves to pick up a shutout as the Cornell men's soccer team tied Lafayette, 0-0, on Tuesday night at Berman Field. The tie moves Cornell to 5-4-4 on the year, while Lafayette moves to 7-5-2 on the season.

Pflasterer came up huge in the clutch in making his first start, picking up five saves during the second overtime period alone. He also was the beneficiary of a fortunate bounce off the post when Lafayette's B.J. Glenn rang a shot off the goalpost and back toward the middle of the goal where the freshman netminder smothered it.

The two teams battled back and forth for the full 110 minutes of the match, with Lafayette holding a 20-13 advantage in shots, though the margin was 13-12 in favor of the Big Red after regulation. Lafayette goalkeeper Philip Nelson stopped six shots in earning the shutout for the Leopards.

Pflasterer becomes the second straight Cornell goalkeeper to post a shutout in his first career start. Current junior goalkeeper Scott Brody earned a shutout in his first career start against Hartwick in 2007.

The Big Red returns to action on Saturday when it takes on Brown, ranked 18th in the nation in this week's NSCAA poll, at 7 p.m. at Berman Field.
