HANOVER, N.H.—The Big Red women's tennis team defeated Columba, 6-1, on day two of the ECAC Indoor Women's Tennis Championships on Saturday afternoon. Cornell won the doubles point and added five singles' wins to pick up the team victory. The Big Red moves to 3-1 for the season.
In doubles, Cornell won at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots to win the point. At No. 1 singles, Natalia Sanchez lost the first set, 6-2, but came back to win the next two 6-3, 6-3, to win her match. At the No. 2 position, Stephanie Kent won a hard-fought first set, 7-6 (5), before sealing the win with a 6-4 victory in the second set. Elizabeth Googe split the first two sets with her opponent, but won a 6-2 third and deciding set. Ruxandra Dumitrescu seemed to have the easiest time with her opponent, winning, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Senior Shayna Miller rounded out the wins for Cornell at the No. 5 spot. After losing 6-3 in the opening set, she bounced back to win 6-2, 6-3.
Cornell will play Harvard at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
