Syracuse, N.Y. – After making the short trip up 81, the Big Red women's tennis team was unable to knock off non-conference foe Syracuse.
Stephanie Kent,
Elizabeth Googe, and
Shayna Miller were all able to pick up singles wins at spots two, three, and four, respectively, but the Big Red could not notch a fourth and fell 4-3.
After dropping the doubles point, Cornell got strong performances from the middle of their lineup.
Stephanie Kent, playing at the number two spot, easily dispatched Christina Tan 6-4, 6-2. Senior captain
Shayna Miller was also successful, fighting to a 6-4, 7-5 victory in a tightly contested match against Alessondra Parra.
The Big Red also picked up a singles point at the number three spot, where
Elizabeth Googe was able to outlast Simone Kalhorn in the longest match of the night. Googe won the first set 7-5 after capitalizing on a late break, but fell in the second 6-4. She was unable to bounce back and took the third set 10-5 to pick up the win.
The women next take the court when they travel to Rutgers on Sunday, March 8th.
