ITHACA, N.Y. -- Evan Barlow's goal with 2:08 to play in overtime lifted the Cornell men's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Quinnipiac on Friday night at Lynah Rink. Junior Brendon Nash added a goal and an assist in the contest as the Big Red improved to 15-3-4 on the year and 10-2-3 in ECAC Hockey play. Quinnipiac fell to 14-11-2 overall and 7-6-2 in league action.

Ben Scrivens picked up 25 saves for the victory for the Big Red, while Dan Clarke stopped 16 Cornell shots in taking the loss for the Bobcats. The Big Red also went a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill, stifling the Bobcats' power play, which had entered the game converting on 20.5 percent of its chances. The Big Red went 2-for-10 on the man advantage, including Barlow's game-winner.

With Cornell on a power play following a slashing call on Quinnipiac's Bryan Leitch at the 2:22 mark of overtime, Cornell needed 30 seconds of its 10th power play of the night to put the game-winner on the board. Blake Gallagher won the puck off the near-side boards and sent a pass back to Brendon Nash at the point. Nash then slipped a pass across ice to Barlow, whose one-timer went through a screen of several bodies before ripping the back of the nettting.

Quinnipiac struck early, needing just 1:30 of the first period to put a shot past Scrivens. The Bobcats' Brett Dickinson, the trailer on a rush into the Cornell zone, ripped a shot that beat Scrivens high, with Mike Atkinson and David Marshall both collecting assists on the play.

That would be all the offense the Bobcats could muster, though, as the Big Red defense and Scrivens shut the door on Quinnipiac time and time again. Cornell drew level before the first period even ended, converting on a power play goal by Nash, his second tally of the season.

With the two teams 4-on-3 following a pair of hitting after the whistle calls on Dickinson and Barlow, Riley Nash opened the play by winning a faceoff in the Quinnipiac zone back to his brother, who kept the puck in the zone and slid toward center point before passing back to Riley. Nash immediately sent the puck back to Brendon, who ripped a shot that beat Clarke high, knotting the score at one.

The two sides could only muster up four shots apiece in the second period as the pace settled down. The third period saw the action pick back up again, this time toward the end of the period, with Quinnipiac being turned away five times by Scrivens and Clarke turning aside eight Cornell shots to send the game into overtime.

The win keeps Cornell level with Yale for the top spot in ECAC Hockey, as the Bulldogs scored a 5-1 win at Harvard. Cornell and Yale also remain three points ahead of third-place Princeton and Dartmouth, as the Tigers needed overtime to dispatch Colgate, 3-2, and Dartmouth was a 5-2 winner at Brown.

The Big Red returns to action on Saturday night, taking on Princeton in a 7 p.m. game at Lynah Rink. Saturday's game is sold out.
