POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Justin Krueger had a pair of assists and eight different players recorded a point as the Cornell men's hockey team scored a 3-1 victory over Clarkson on Friday night at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, N.Y.

Krueger, who scored multiple points in his second straight game, assisted on the Big Red's first and second goals, which were both scored as Cornell (9-4-2, 7-2-1 ECAC Hockey) was on a delayed penalty. Locke Jillson, Patrick Kennedy and Colin Greening each scored goals for the Big Red, with Kennedy's tally coming as the game-winner.

Ben Scrivens stopped 18 shots in picking up the victory for the Big Red. Corey Tamblyn scored the lone goal for Clarkson (5-13-3, 1-6-2 ECAC Hockey), which got 20 saves from Paul Karpowich in defeat.

Cornell went 0-for-7 on the power play on the night, while Clarkson was held scoreless in two power-play chances.

Following a scoreless first period, the Big Red got on the scoreboard first early in With 1:25 gone in the second period, Scrivens came to the bench on a delayed penalty call. As the extra skater got on the ice, Krueger took a shot from the point that was initially stopped by Karpowich, but the rebound came off to his left where Jillson was stationed. The sophomore buried the rebound into the open net for his second goal of the year and second in as many games.

A minute later, Clarkson evened things up with Corey Tamblyn scoring his third goal of the season. Bryan Rufenach carried the puck through the neutral zone and into the Cornell end, drawing four defenders to him, and laid the puck off to his right to an oncoming Tamblyn, who one-timed a shot that beat Scrivens on the near post to knot the score.

Cornell had an apparent goal disallowed late in the second period that would have given Cornell the lead heading into the second intermission. With the Big Red on a 5-on-3 power play following back-to-back penalties on Clarkson's Louke Oakley and Tim Marks, Blake Gallagher won the faceoff and worked his way to the weak-side post. Brendon Nash sent a puck toward the goal that glanced off Gallagher's right skate and caromed into the net, but referee Mike Baker waved it off, ruling that Gallagher used an intentional kicking motion to redirect the puck into the net. The Cornell bench appealed to the officials to check the video replay, but the officials declined as play resumed and Clarkson killed off the remaining 13.8 seconds of the period.

Despite the disallowed goal, the Big Red opened up the third period with 54 seconds of a 5-on-3, and Cornell's best chance came at the end of the 5-on-3 when Gallagher had an open net but sent the puck over the goal. With Cornell still on the power play, the Big Red narrowly avoided disaster as Sean Whitney was stripped of the puck at the Cornell blue line by Matt Beca, but his breakaway on goal was stopped by Scrivens and knocked onto the crossbar and away from danger, the second time he stoned Beca on a breakaway in the game.

Kennedy got the Big Red back on top with another delayed penalty goal, this time with 9:42 to play in the third period. Kennedy drew the call at the side boards, a potential cross-checking penalty, and continued to the net. Krueger sent the puck on goal, where it was stopped by Karpowich, but Kennedy was there for the backhand shot that went under the outstretched diving attempt by the sophomore netminder.

Greening put the final nail in the coffin with 1:35 to play when he skated in and took the puck from Joe Devin and, as the only Cornell player in the offensive zone, ripped a low shot that beat Karpowich.

Cornell continues its trip to the North Country on Saturday night when it faces St. Lawrence in a 7 p.m. contest at Appleton Arena in Canton, N.Y.
