ITHACA, N.Y. -- Ben Scrivens made 24 saves for Cornell (17-8-4, 14-5-3 ECAC Hockey) and Allen York stopped 28 for Rensselaer (17-5-4, 10-9-3) as the two teams closed out the regular season with a 1-1 tie on Saturday evening at Lynah Rink in Ithaca. Cornell finished in second place in the league standings and receives a first-round bye in the upcoming league playoffs.

Sean Collins scored the lone goal of the night for the Big Red in the first period, with Nick D'Agostino and Mike Devin both collecting assists. Chase Polacek scored the only goal for Rensselaer, also in the first period, with Jerry D'Amigo picking up the assist.

Cornell finished the night scoreless in six power-play chances, while Rensselaer was 1-for-6 with the man advantage on the night.

The Big Red took the lead seven minutes into the opening period when Collins jammed home a rebound off a shot from D'Agostino. Collins, standing on the weak-side goalpost, happened to be in the right place when D'Agostino's rebound popped off of York. A wild pile-up in front of the Rensselaer goal made the officials unsure of the legality of the play, but a review of the video replay confirmed the valid goal, giving Cornell a 1-0 lead.

Eight minutes later, with the Enginners on a 4-on-3 power play, Rensselaer tied the game up as D'Amigo worked the puck to Polacek, whose shot from the point found its way through traffic and caromed off a Cornell skater before winding up in the back of the net.

That would be the only scoring of the game, with both teams playing solid on both ends of the ice. Cornell received the benefit of a five-minute power play when Paul Kerins was sent off for a hitting from behind major, but the Big Red could not convert on the extended power play.

The game served as Senior Night for the six members of the Class of 2010, who were honored in a post-game ceremony. Also, during the first intermission, the 40th anniversary of the 1970 undefeated, national championship season was celebrated with members of that team being honored on the ice.

With the first round bye, Cornell will not learn its opponent until after all of the first round games are complete. The Big Red will next be in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 12, at Lynah Rink. Rensselaer, meanwhile, finished with the sixth seed in the league standings and will play host to Brown next weekend at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y.
