ITHACA, N.Y. -- Tyler Regan scored the game's lone goal and the Big Red defense made it stand up as Cornell earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Canisius on Sunday afternoon at Berman Field. The home team improved to 3-2-1 on the year, while the Golden Griffins fell to 0-4.

Cornell had the better of play in the first 45 minutes and finally capitalized on a long ball to Chase Aaronson from Regan. The junior corralled the pass in the right end line and sent a centering pass that Regan ran onto. The sophomore's shot hit the left post and ricocheted in with 12:30 left on the clock. That would prove to be the only score on either side.

Rick Flasterer was tested once in each half and was up to the challenge. In the first half, Sam Zarka hit a strike that he deflected just over the crossbar. Cornell held a 7-2 shot advantage at the break, with Kareen Gray making two saves for the Golden Griffins between the pipes.

Cornell out-shot Canisius 10-5 and had three corner kicks without surrendering one. A physical game included seven yellow cards, with five issued against the Golden Griffs.

The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 22 when it faces Syracuse at 7 p.m. at Berman Field.
