TODAY'S MATCH-UP
The Cornell men's soccer team wraps up a three-game homestand when it plays host to instate rival Syracuse on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Berman Field. The Big Red will be trying to remain perfect at home this season after scoring a 1-0 victory against Canisius this past weekend.

HEAD COACH JARO ZAWISLAN
In his second season on the bench directing the Big Red, Jaro Zawislan has implemented his high-pressure, high-tempo offense with the results to back him up. Zawislan has led the Big Red to a 9-8-6 record since taking over the program prior to the 2009 season. He earned his first career victory on Sept. 7, 2009, against Hartwick. His coaching career also includes stops at Stanford and Creighton following a decorated playing career at Clemson, where he graduated in 1993. Zawislan played professionally in the United States and his native Poland before turning to coaching. He is assisted by Joe Schneck, in his fifth year with the Big Red, and Keith Comfort and T.J. Love, both in their first seasons with the Cornell program.

ABOUT THE BIG RED
Cornell played a pair of games last weekend defeating both Saint Joseph's University (3-1) and Canisius (1-0) at Berman Field. Chase Aaronson leads the team with five points on two goals and one assist, while Franck Onambele has scored twice. In all, nine different Big Red players have reached the points' column with seven players accounting for Cornell's 11 total team goals. In goal, Rick Pflasterer has played every minute for the Big Red, posting a 1.12 goals-against average and a .759 save percentage to go along with his 3-2-1 record.

ABOUT THE ORANGE
Syracuse enters today's contest with a 1-4 record on the year, with its lone victory coming as a 1-0 overtime win against Northeastern on Sept. 10. The Orange has scored just three goals on the season, with Nick Roydhouse leading the way with two tallies. Brett Jankouskas has the other Syracuse goal, while Mawuena Agbossoumonde and Geoff Lytle have registered one assist apiece. Jeremy Vuolo has seen the majority of time in goal, posting a 2.05 goals-against average and a .640 save percentage en route to a 1-4 record.

THE SERIES WITH SYRACUSE
Cornell leads the all-time series against the Orange, 39-22-6, though Syracuse is currently riding a four-game winning streak against the Big Red. Cornell's last victory in the series came in the 2001 season, a 2-1 double-overtime victory in Syracuse, N.Y.

A FAMILIAR FACE FOR THE ORANGE
Cornell head coach Jaro Zawislan served as an assistant coach at Syracuse for the seven seasons prior to taking over the Big Red program in 2009.

THAT'S A FIRST
Tyler Regan registered his first goal for the Big Red as Cornell defeated Canisius, 1-0, on Sunday. A transfer from Appalachian State, Regan finished as the Mountaineers second leading scorer with four goals and four assists for 12 points.

TAKE A SHOT
Cornell has outshot its opponents in five-of-six games so far this season. The only team to outshoot the Big Red this season has been Vermont (13-5), one of the top teams in this week's NSCAA Northeast Region poll.

AND THE AWARD GOES TO...
A trio of Cornellians were honored for their play at the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Nike Classic on Sept. 10-12 with a spot on the all-tournament team. Junior midfielder Jimmy Lannon, sophomore goalkeeper Rick Pflasterer and freshman midfielder Ben Williams each was recognized for their play in helping the Big Red to a tie with New Hampshire and a loss to tournament champion Vermont.

DON'T BLINK
A span of 3:40 was the difference between a win and a loss for the Big Red on Sept. 6 against Hartwick, as Cornell scored three goals in dramatic fashion to claim the lead and eventually, the victory. First it was Franck Onambele scoring off a header from a Jimmy Lannon throw-in, and just 1:19 later, a Craig Dimbleby cross found the head of Daniel Haber on the back post, and his header equalized the score at two. Then, 2:21 later, it was Haber slotting a pass through traffic to Will Ogden, who slotted a shot past the oncoming goalkeeper.

SAVING THE DAY
Rick Pflasterer had a quiet day in the win against Hartwick, making just one save in the contest, stopping a second-half penalty kick. Unfortunately for Pflasterer, the rebound came directly back to the shooter, who finished into the empty net for the 1-0 Hartwick lead. Fortunately, though, the Big Red rallied for three goals in the span of 3:40 to claim the victory.

WELCOME ABOARD
Of the 18 players who saw playing time through the first two games of the season, eight of them are newcomers to the Cornell roster in 2010, including transfers Will Ogden, Franck Onambele and Tyler Regan. Both Ogden and Onambele scored a goal in the Big Red's home opener on Sept. 6 against Hartwick, while Regan made his Cornell debut in that contest.

START ME UP
Despite falling to Long Island in the season opener on Sept. 5, the Big Red still holds a 33-24-8 record all-time in season openers dating back to the 1946 season.
