ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's soccer team controlled the tempo of play and dominated the two overtime periods but couldn't find the game-winner as it played to a 1-1 tie in double-overtime with instate rival Syracuse this evening on Berman Field.

Nico Nissl handed the Big Red a 1-0 lead at the 28:21 mark. Jimmy Lannon sent a long ball behind the Syracuse defense before Daniel Haber crossed it to the far post where Nissl converted.

Cornell (3-2-2) held the edge in shots (26-20), shots on goal (11-6) and corner kicks (7-6), but a second half push by the Orange led to a late goal from Nick Roydhouse, which knotted the game at 1-1 in the 64th minute.

The Big Red managed to get nine shots in the two overtimes, putting one on frame, but Jeremy Vuolo made an impressive save to preserve the tie for the visitors.

Syracuse (1-4-1) got nine saves from Vuolo and had one Cornell shot swept off the goal-line by David Nuemann.

Cornell goalie Rick Pflasterer made five saves.

The Big Red is back in action this weekend as it travels to Binghamton to take on the Bearcats on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m.
