The Cornell men's soccer team will look to build off of its dramatic comeback victory against Hartwick on Monday when it travels to Burlington, Vt., for the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Nike Classic this weekend. The Big Red will battle New Hampshire in a 1:30 p.m. contest on Friday before taking on the host Catamounts of Vermont at the same time on Sunday. Live streaming video of both games will be available on a pay-per-view basis.

HEAD COACH JARO ZAWISLAN
In his second season on the bench directing the Big Red, Jaro Zawislan has implemented his high-pressure, high-tempo offense with the results to back him up. Zawislan has led the Big Red to a 7-7-5 record since taking over the program prior to the 2009 season. He earned his first career victory on Sept. 7, 2009, against Hartwick. His coaching career also includes stops at Stanford and Creighton following a decorated playing career at Clemson, where he graduated in 1993. Zawislan played professionally in the United States and his native Poland before turning to coaching. He is assisted by Joe Schneck, in his fifth year with the Big Red, and Keith Comfort and T.J. Love, both in their first seasons with the Cornell program.

ABOUT THE BIG RED
A span of 3:40 lifted the Cornell men's soccer team from a two-goal deficit to a one-goal lead, as the Big Red staged a dramatic rally to score a 3-2 victory against Hartwick on Monday, evening Cornell's record at 1-1 on the year. Freshman Daniel Haber had a huge game, scoring the game-tying goal and assisting on the game-winner, as the Big Red defeated its in-state rival for the second straight season. Cornell opened the season with a tough 1-0 loss at Long Island on Sept. 4. Junior Will Ogden and sophomore Franck Onambele both added goals for Cornell against Hartwick, while Jimmy Lannon, Patrick Slogic and Craig Dimbleby each had an assist in the dramatic comeback. In goal, Rick Pflasterer has played every minute for the Big Red, posting a 1.50 goals-against average and a .667 save percentage.

ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Wildcats won their own tournament last weekend, tying Wisconsin-Milwaukee and defeating Central Connecticut State, 1-0, to improve to 1-0-1 on the young season. Freshman Steven Palumbo scored the only goal of the game for the Wildcats, while senior goalkeeper Colin O'Donnell has posted a pair of shutouts in 200 minutes for a 0.00 goals-against average and a 1.000 save percentage.

THE SERIES WITH NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Wildcats hold a slim 2-1 lead in the all-time series against Cornell, with the two teams alternating wins. New Hampshire won the series opener, 3-0, in 1994 as part of the UNH Adidas/Pepsi Classic, but Cornell responded with a 1-0 victory in the Smith Barney Classic in Burlington, Vt., in 2006. The most recent meeting took place two years ago at Bucknell's tournament, with the Wildcats scoring a 2-1 win in Lewisburg, Pa.

ABOUT VERMONT
The Catamounts have been up-and-down on the year, knocking off 13th-ranked Stanford in the season opener on Sept. 1, but falling to Central Connecticut State, 1-0, on Sept. 4, before downing Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 2-1, in double overtime on Sept. 6. Both of Vermont's wins this season have come in overtime. Nick O'Neill leads the team in scoring with five points on two goals and an assist, while Juan Peralta and Salvatore Borea both have a goal on the year. In net, Xan Rousselle has played two of the three games, posting a 0.87 goals-against average and a .857 save percentage with two victories.

THE SERIES WITH VERMONT
Vermont is 2-1 all-time against the Big Red, though Cornell took the last meeting between the two programs, 1-0, on Sept. 23, 2007, in Ithaca. The Catamounts claimed the series opener, 1-0, as part of the UNH Adidas/Pepsi Classic in 1994 in Durham, N.H., and scored a 3-1 win at the Smith Barney Classic in 2006 in Burlington, Vt.

DON'T BLINK
A span of 3:40 was the difference between a win and a loss for the Big Red on Sept. 6 against Hartwick, as Cornell scored three goals in dramatic fashion to claim the lead and eventually, the victory. First it was Franck Onambele scoring off a header from a Jimmy Lannon throw-in, and just 1:19 later, a Craig Dimbleby cross found the head of Daniel Haber on the back post, and his header equalized the score at two. Then, 2:21 later, it was Haber slotting a pass through traffic to Will Ogden, who slotted a shot past the oncoming goalkeeper.

SAVING THE DAY
Rick Pflasterer had a quiet day in the win against Hartwick, making just one save in the contest, stopping a second-half penalty kick. Unfortunately for Pflasterer, the rebound came directly back to the shooter, who finished into the empty net for the 1-0 Hartwick lead. Fortunately, though, the Big Red rallied for three goals in the span of 3:40 to claim the victory.

SECOND HALF TEAM
Through two games this season, the Big Red has been scoreless at halftime both times, only to find all the match's scoring after intermission. Against Long Island, the Blackbirds scored the game's only goal in the 57th minute, and against Hartwick, all five of the game's goals were scored after halftime, including four goals in the final 21 minutes. That continues a trend from the 2009 season, when Cornell scored 15 of its 20 goals after halftime.

WELCOME ABOARD
Of the 18 players to see time through the first two games, eight of them are newcomers to the Cornell roster in 2010, including transfers Will Ogden, Franck Onambele and Tyler Regan. Both Ogden and Onambele scored a goal in the Big Red's home opener, while Regan made his Cornell debut in that contest.

START ME UP
Despite falling to Long Island in the season opener on Sept. 5, the Big Red still holds a 33-24-8 record all-time in season openers dating back to the 1946 season.

UP NEXT
Cornell returns to Berman Field to open up a three-game home stand, beginning with a 7 p.m. contest against St. Joseph's on Thursday, Sept. 16.
