Box Score
HAMILTON, N.Y. --
Locke Jillson scored his third goal of the season early in the third period, but Colgate's Jeremy Price scored the game-tying goal with 1:35 to play in regulation as the Cornell men's hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with the Raiders on Friday night at Starr Rink in Hamilton, N.Y. The tie sends the Big Red to 7-9-2 overall on the year and 5-5-1 in ECAC Hockey action, while Colgate moves to 3-18-2, 0-9-2 in league play.
Sean Collins had the lone assist on the night for Cornell, with Mike Garman stopping 24 shots in the contest as Cornell went scoreless in two power-play attempts.
For Colgate, Brian Day and Francois Brisebois had assists with Eric Mihalik stopping 18 Cornell shots in picking up the tie. The Raiders were held scoreless in two power-play chances.
Colgate had a goal waved off in the first period, with referee Kevin Graber appearing to wave the goal off due to the puck being kicked into the goal. A few minutes later, Colgate's Christian Long was assessed a five-minute major and a game disqualification penalty for hitting from behind against Cornell defenseman
Kirill Gotovets, who remained down for several minutes before skating off under his own power. Gotovets would return to the game after the hit, but Cornell could not convert on the five-minute man advantage.
As the score remained tied at zero heading into the third period, Jillson finally got Cornell on the scoreboard with his third tally of the season, picking up a loose puck in the faceoff circle to the left of Mihalik and circling into the slot, back-handing a shot under the crossbar to give the Big Red the 1-0 lead at the 3:15 mark of the period.
Colgate evened the score with 1:35 to play on Price's second goal of the year. After a Raider timeout, Day picked up the puck off the faceoff and skated beyond the goal line before spotting Price coming down the slot unguarded. Day's pass hit Price in stride, and his one-timer beat Garman to knot the score at one. Neither team could get the game-winner in regulation or in the overtime period, as each team claimed a point in the league table.
The two teams will return to action on Saturday as the scene shifts to Cornell's Lynah Rink for a 7 p.m. contest.
