CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Behind junior
Locke Jillson's second-period game-winning goal and 33 saves from freshman goaltender
Andy Iles, the Cornell men's hockey team picked up a 2-1 victory over Harvard on Saturday night at the Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, Mass. The win caps the month of January for the Big Red, as Cornell went 4-1-2 over that span.
Mike Devin scored the other goal of the night for Cornell, with
Braden Birch,
Dustin Mowrey and
Nick D'Agostino each picking up one assist. Cornell (9-9-3, 7-5-2 ECAC Hockey) finished the night 1-for-2 on the power play while holding the Crimson scoreless in four power-play chances.
Alex Fallstrom scored the lone goal of the night for Harvard, which slips to 4-16 on the year and 3-12 in league play. Ryan Carroll made 18 saves in the loss for the Crimson.
Devin got the Big Red on the board in the first period, scoring his fifth goal of the season at the 4:45 mark of the period, but the Crimson tied the score 10 minutes later on Fallstrom's second tally of the year, sending the game to the first intermission knotted at one.
In the second, Jillson scored his fourth goal of the year, a power-play tally with assists to Mowrey and D'Agostino, at the 17:46 mark of the period to put the Big Red ahead, 2-1. Cornell would protect that lead in the third period despite killing off a trio of power plays in the period. Iles made 11 of his 33 saves in the third period to keep the Big Red on top.
Cornell returns to action on Friday, playing host to Clarkson in a 7 p.m. contest at Lynah Rink.
