ITHACA, N.Y. – With a record-breaking 983 fans in attendance at Berman Field, the Cornell men's soccer team played a thrilling overtime game against Brown that ended in a 1-1 draw that earned each team a point in the Ivy League standings.

No. 25 Cornell (8-1-4, 3-0-1 Ivy League) remains in first place in the league despite the tie, while using Brown (7-4-2, 2-1-1) to extend its unbeaten streak to 12 games.

What started out as a slow, methodical game with few chances for either defensive-minded side quickly got crazy at the start of the second half as both goals were scored in four-minute span.

The Big Red, playing in front of its biggest crowd ever, got on the board first thanks to a header by Stephen Reisert. The play started with a Daniel Haber corner kick into the penalty box, but Brown defenders nudged the ball to the far side of the field. No one was there except freshman defender Peter Chodas, and Chodas launched a cross into the box that Reisert flicked past Brown keeper Sam Kernan-Schloss.

But Cornell's celebration was short-lived. Just three minutes later, Brown earned its second corner kick in under a minute. This one, the Bears didn't waste. Jay Hayward looped the ball perfectly onto the head of 6-foot-5 Ben Maurey, and the freshman knocked the ball past Cornell's Rick Pflasterer for the equalizer.

After that, neither team scored again, though there were a few opportunities for each side. Pflasterer and Kernan-Schloss did their jobs well, and the offenses were shut down for the final 60 minutes.

Cornell's 12-game unbeaten streak is its longest since Nov. 12, 1995 and is the second-longest streak in the nation behind New Mexico's 15.

The Big Red also raised money to help fight pediatric cancer, bringing in $5 for every person in the stands to benefit the Go4theGoal Foundation's Lace-Up 4 Pediatric Cancer fund. Players also wore yellow laces to raise awareness of pediatric cancer.

The Ivy League-leading Big Red returns to action on Saturday on the road against defending league champion Princeton. The game is set to start at 4 p.m.
