ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's polo team dropped a 25-22 decision to No. 2 Colorado State in the semifinals of the 2011 William S. Field Invitational at the Oxley Equestrian Center. Cornell fell to 4-3 on the season with the loss.
The Rams returned their best two players and added a new third that upgraded their team. Nick Stieg, Brandon Van Loon and
Nik Feldman started for the Big Red and caught the Rams a bit off guard in the first as CSU got into some foul trouble which enabled Cornell to build a 10-4 lead after one. The experienced Rams began to chip away at the lead in the second and were down only 14-11 heading into the half. Again, in the third, the Rams edged closer and ended up being down by one, 19-18, heading into the fourth. CSU's experience showed in the fourth as they completed the comeback and tripped up the Big Red 25-22 for the right to meet No. 1 Virginia in the finals.
