ITHACA, N.Y. -- Doug Ferguson, a two-time All-American who led the Big Red to its first national championship in 1967, has been named one of ECAC Hockey's 50 greatest players, the league office announced on Wednesday. Ferguson is the sixth Cornell player to have been recognized so far as the league builds toward the league championship weekend on March 18 and 19.

Ferguson garnered All-America honors in 1966 and 1967, and was named the league's player of the year in 1967. Two years prior, he was named the league's top rookie, the first player in Cornell history to be so honored. Ferguson was a three-time all-league selection, earning second team honors in 1965 and first team honors in 1966 and 1967. He also excelled in the playoffs, twice earning league all-tournament first team honors and being named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament in 1967.

Ferguson set the Cornell record for goals in a season with 37, set in 1966, and was the league's goal leader that season while also pacing the league in points with 71 in 27 games. His 187 points in 82 career games still ranks fourth in Cornell history.

Ferguson, who passed away in November of 2003, was inducted into the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979.
