ITHACA, N.Y. – The Big Red women's tennis team was edged by Penn, 4-3, this afternoon at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y. Cornell, which slips to 9-10 overall (1-5 Ivy), closes out its season on Sunday afternoon when it faces No. 50 Princeton (11-9, 4-2 Ivy), at the Lenz Tennis Center in Princeton, N.J., on April 17 at 11:00 a.m.
Cornell earned the doubles point in relatively easy fashion, with the tandems of Ordway/Young and Chis/Dumitrescu each winning by a score of 8-1, but Penn (7-13, 1-5 Ivy) responded by winning the first two singles matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 sports to go up, 2-1.
The Big Red temporarily reclaimed the lead, 3-2, with victories by No. 6
Sarah O'Neil and No. 5
Ruxandra Dumitrescu and the Quakers knotted the match at 3-3 with a three-set win at No. 4 by Stephanie Do.
The evening came down to the No. 2 singles, where
Ryann Young won the first set but fell in the second in a tie-break, 7-6 (3), which sent the contest into a decisive third-set, where she came up just short.
