ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell softball split a Sunday afternoon doubleheader against Brown at Niemand*Robison Field, winning a 2-1 pitcher's duel in game one before falling 9-3 in the nightcap. The Big Red had its seven-game win streak snapped in moving to 14-12-1 on the year (3-1 Ivy), while the Bears improved to 7-10-1 (2-2 Ivy) after taking the second game.
Dalrymple was again fantastic, pitching a three-hit complete game effort against the Bears to improve to 2-0 in conference action on the year. She struck out seven in hurling her 12th complete game in 12 starts this season.
Erin Keene and Lauren Bucolo each drove in a run, with only freshman Sam Creamer having a multi-hit game, going 2-for-2. Morgan Cawley had a double for the game's only extra-base hit. The Bears were able to score once in the sixth to cut Cornell's lead in half, but Dalrymple shut the door on the visitors for her eighth win of the year and 52nd of her career.
Game two was all Brown, as the Bears jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first after a three-run homer by Kate Strobel, the first of her two home runs in game two. Strobel ended the night 3-for-4 with two runs scored and six RBI. The Bears would score three times off four Big Red errors.
After falling behind 4-0, the Big Red rallied to within 4-3 with a run in the second and two more in the third. Erin Belles blasted a homer to open the second, and an RBI triple by Jenny Edwards gave the home team momentum. The Bears were able to pull back out out with a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and cinched the victory with Strobel's two-run shot in the seventh. The Big Red was able to load the bases with one out in the sixth down 7-3, but couldn't plate a run to cut into the lead.
