Game 1 Box Score (Cornell 8, Harvard 1)
Game 2 Box Score (Harvard 7, Cornell 5)
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- In a battle of the league's top two pitchers, Cornell's Elizabeth Dalrymple ruled the day in game one, surrendering just one run and two hits in a 5-1 victory over Harvard on Saturday afternoon. Erin Belles hit a big three-run home run in the third as Cornell improved to 5-2 in Ancient Eight play, briefly matching Harvard for the top mark in the conference. The Crimson came back for a 7-5 victory in the nightcap on the strength a five-run sixth inning rally.
Game 1
Dalrymple struck out 10 in her 14th complete game of the season, surrendering two hits and three walks in improving to 10-4 on the year. COrnell's offense was led by Belles, who was 2-for-2 with a walk and three RBI. Both Erin Keene and Kristen Towne added a pair of hits to the effort as the Big Red tallied nine hits as a team.
Harvard's Rachel Brown struck out 12, but surrendered six earned runs in her 6.0 innings of work to take the loss, falling to 13-5 on the season. Both Mari Zumbro and Stephanie Regan had a hit, while Whitney Shaw reached base twice on walks.
Cornell broke through against Brown with five runs in the third, with the big blow coming on a three-run home run by Belles, her fifth big fly of the year. Marissa Amiraian got the scoring started with an RBI triple, and Edwards singled her home to make it 2-0. That helped set up Belles for her blast to make it 5-0.
Harvard got a run back in the fourth, as Mari Zumbro took advantage of a Whitney Shaw leadoff walk with a two-out double to cut the deficit to 5-1.
A two-out single by Ali Tomlinson in the sixth plated Sarah McCormack from third after she entered the game as a pinch-runner for Belles, who drew a leadoff walk. Cornell struck for the final two runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Erin Keene and Kristen Towne.
Game 2
The Big Red chased Brown in game two after just two batters, with Amiraian hitting a triple to lead of the game, followed by a double to left-center by Edwards to make it 1-0. A Keene single greeted Harvard pitcher Laura Ricciardone to make it first and third with no outs, but she was able to retire the side, part of 14 straight batters retired by the freshman. In the meantime, Harvard took the lead back at 2-1 on single runs in the second and third, both on two-out doubles.
Cornell regained the lead with three runs in the fifth inning, all coming with two outs. Morgan Cawley started the rally with a harlmess infield single, followed by another by Amiraian. Edwards then got a hold of a pitch and drilled a double to left-center to score both runners and give Cornell a 3-2 edge. Keene then singled to score Edwards to push the edge to 4-2.
Harvard used a little two-out magic itself in the sixth. After Dalrymple put away the first two batters of the inning, Scott drew a walk, and Olson capitalized with a home run to right-center to knot the game at 4-4. Two more singles and Ellen Macadam got a hold of another Dalrymple offering, depositing a three-run shot to reight-center to make it 7-4.
Cornell wasn't quite finished, with Morgan Cawley opening the seventh with a leadoff double. Two batters later, Keene singled up the middle to drive in a run and bring the game-tying run to the plate.
