CLINTON, N.Y. — The women's squash team scured a pair of 9-0 victories over Hamilton and Bates on Sunday at Hamilton's Little Squash Center to improve to 8-3 on the season. Hamilton entered the weekend ranked 18th and Bates was holding down ninth in the College Squash Association's most recent rankings.
 
Freshman Danielle Letourneau swept Hamilton's Amanda Thorman, 11-2, 11-4, 11-4, before a hard-fought victory over Bates' Nessrine Ariffin in the afternoon, 9-11, 11-6, 16-14, 11-2. Letourneau improved her individual mark to 6-3 on the season, playing exclusively at the No. 1 spot.
 
In a matchup of Top-25 individual players from last season, Big Red junior Jaime Laird surged past Bates' Cheri-Ann Parris at No. 2, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9, 14-12, 11-3. Laird was ranked 16th at the conclusion of the 2010-11 campaign, while Parris was 24th. Coupled with a four-set victory over Hamilton's Hilary Gray to kick off the day, Laird is now 7-2 on the season.
 
Also improving to 7-2 individually is sophomore Jesse Pacheco, who had a pair of three-set victories over Hamilton's Claire Corroon and Myriam Kelley. Pacheco is also 6-0 when playing in the No. 3 spot. Freshmen Sofia Thierry and Jacqueline Wagner won their matches at No. 8 and No. 9, respectively, to stay unbeaten in their first three collegiate matches.
 
Cornell is idle until a three-match weekend in early February at Belkin International Squash Courts, which also marks the squad's return to Ivy League play. The Big Red hosts #17 Franklin & Marshall on Feb. 3, #8 Dartmouth at noon on Feb. 4 and #1 Harvard at noon on Feb. 5.
