NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Cornell men's swimming and diving team earned four event victories, but weren't able to top Yale's superior depth in a 204.5-95.5 loss to the Bulldogs in a dual meet at Kiphuth Pool on Saturday afternoon.
The Big Red diving team opened the day with a strong showing by
Phillip Truong, who placed first in the 1-meter (301.43) and second in the 3-meter (304.20) competitions. Jon Zollo lso was part of a 2-5 finish in he 3-meter with a 296.48.
Among the top finishers in the swimming competition were senior
Jake Sangren (100 back, 50.95), sophomores
Harry Harpham and
Ben Catanese (both first in the 200 butterfly in 1:53.84) and junior
Mark Stepanian (50 free, 22.05), all event winners on the day. Sophomore
Evan Ciecimirski was a strong second in the 50 free (22.16), with other event runner-ups including freshman
Eric May in the 100 breast (59.45) and classmate
PJ Wickwire in the 200 free (1:44.11). The 200 medley relay squad, comprised of Sangren, May,
James Keady and Chris Myers also placed second in 1:34.54.
