PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior
Lauren Sachvie secured the women's squash team's only point Friday in an 8-1 loss to Princeton. The victory was Sachvie's 10th on the season, tying her for the team lead with
Jaime Laird and Jesse Pacheco.
Sachvie's victory came at the No. 7 position, where she's 7-2 on the season. She won in three games over the Tigers' Hallie Dewey, 11-7, 15-13, 11-8. The seventh-ranked Big Red is now 0-17 all-time against the fifth-ranked Tigers.
The first wave of matches saw a marathon affair between the Big Red's Pacheco and the Tigers' Nicole Bunyan at the No. 3 spot. Bunyan survived to take the first game, 20-18, but Pacheco rallied to even the match after an 11-8 victory in the second set. Bunyan then pulled away, and Princeton secured the match in the next wave with a 6-0 lead before Sachvie's victory.
Cornell (10-4, 3-3 Ivy League) concludes the Ivy League portion of its schedule at 11 a.m. Sunday against visiting Penn. A victory would give the Big Red a program record for league wins. The regular season then concludes with the finale of the doubleheader: a 2 p.m. matchup with William Smith, also at Belkin International Squash Courts.
