2/21/2012 9:04:00 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's and women's teams will renew arguably the greatest rivalry in the sport of college polo when they visit the University of Virginia this weekend. The contests will be rematches of last season's national title games.

The Big Red men, who enter the weekend with a 7-4 record, will compete on Saturday, Feb. 25. The two teams have already met once this season, with the defending champion Cavaliers capturing a 17-10 decision on Oct. 22 in its home arena. The perennial national championship contenders have played at least twice in each season dating back to the 1978-79 season, with Virginia leading 62-39-2. The Cavaliers hold a 13-game win streak in the series dating back to a 16-15 Big Red victory in the 2008 national semifinals.

The Cornell women will meet the Cavaliers for the second time in 2011-12 when the ball drops on Sunday, Feb. 26. Like the men's teams, this will be the second opportunity for the squads to battle. At xx-xx, the Big Red lead the all-time series 88-27-2, though it had a six-game win streak snapped when the Cavaliers captured a 19-9 decision in Charlottesville, Va., on Oct. 21.
