ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell won five events individual events, but Brown was able to finish first in the meet-ending 400 free relay to hold off the Big Red 155-145 on Saturday afternoon at Teagle Pool. The two teams will now ready for the 2012 Ivy League championships on March 1 at Princeton.

Phillip Truong won both the 1-meter (298.57) and 3-meter (358.72) competitions on the diving boards to get Cornell off on the right foot. The quartet of seniors Jake Sangren, Steven Kwartler and James Keady and junior Chris Myers then pulled off a Senior Day win in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:32.48, just ahead of Brown to keep the momentum going.

The Big Red collected a 2-3-4 finish in the 1000 free, led by freshman Michael Reynolds (9:47.93) in second, followed by another 2-3-4 finish in the 200 free with Harry Harpham earning runner-up status in 1:41.71.

Jake Sangren won the 100 back in 50.28 and Big Red swimmers took second in both the 100 breast and 200 fly to keep Cornell within shouting distance of the lead.

Myers (21.26) and Kwartler (21.28) placed 1-2 in a jam-packed 50 free, with Cornell taking another 2-3 finish in the 100 free behind Kevin Brazitis (46.78) and Zac Mijares-Shafai (46.99). Another 2-3 finish, this time in the 200 back, put Jordan Caines (1:53.59) and Ben Catanese (1:55.03) on the podium.

Harpham came back from his swim in the 200 free to place second in the 500 free (4:38.88), while sophomore Henry Scott was second in the 100 butterfly in 49.92. Eric May then earned a hard-fought second in the 200 IM (1:54.81) to set up the final race drama.

Heading into the final turn of the 400 free relay it was anybody's race, but Brown's final kick was enough to win the race, and a 2-3-4 finish by the Big Red wasn't enough to move past the Bears in the final standings. The top team of Brazitis, Mijares-Shafai, Tim Satterthwaite and Henry Scott had a solid 3:05.81 swim to finish second.
