Men's Swim and Dive Downs Brown, 173-127

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell men's swimming and diving team defeated the Brown Bears 173-127 in a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday at Teagle Pool. The Big Red improved to 4-4 on the season, while the Bears dropped to 2-6.

The Big Red opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of Pietro Ubertalli, Haihan Xu, Daniel Simoes, and Josh Toothman touched first in 1:26.52. Cornell also earned points from its B relay, which placed second.

In the distance freestyle events, Julian Correa led Cornell with a win in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 4:28.21. Correa also finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle. Owen Dankert and Duke Garvin added fifth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively, in the 1000 free.

Pietro Ubertalli captured first place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:36.98) and later won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:43.61. Blake Conway followed with a third-place finish in the 200 back. Conway also won the 100-yard backstroke earlier in the meet, touching in 46.95, while Gabe Anagnoson placed third.

Haihan Xu secured a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.19. Xu later placed first again in the 200-yard breaststroke (1:57.72), followed closely by Emmanuel Gadson in second. Phillip Osadsky added a fifth-place finish in the event.

Cornell dominated the butterfly events, led by Jacques Grove, who won both the 200-yard butterfly (1:46.24) and the 100-yard butterfly (47.51). Andrew Lin finished second in both events, while Leo Cerda placed fourth in the 200 butterfly.

In sprint freestyle action, Josh Toothman won the 50-yard freestyle in 19.97 and added a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle. Daniel Simoes followed closely, placing second in the 50 free and third in the 100 free.

On the boards, Max Reis-Trovillion led the Big Red with a third-place finish on the 3-meter, scoring 312.90, and a fourth-place finish on the 1-meter. William Klingensmith placed fifth in both diving events, while Peter Buskirk added a sixth-place finish on each board.

The meet concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay, where Cornell's A relay of Ubertalli, Simoes, Toothman, and Grove placed first in 2:57.65. The Big Red also earned second-place points from its B relay.

The Cornell men's swimming and diving team will return to action on Saturday, February 7th against upstate New York foe LeMoyne College. The Big Red and the Dolphins are slated to begin competition at 11:00 a.m. at Teagle Pool.
