ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's squash team dropped a 9-0 contest to undefeated and top-ranked Harvard on Sunday, capping off a 2-1 weekend at Belkin Internation Squash Courts.
The Crimson took seven of Sunday's nine matches in straight sets. Freshman
Rachel Au took the first set in her match against Natasha Kingshott at the No. 5 spot, but Kingshott prevailed in four. Junior
Jaime Laird then built an early lead in the second set of her match against Laura Gemmell, then held on to level the score before Gemmell pulled away in four.
The loss ended a five-match winning streak for seventh-ranked Cornell (10-4, 3-2 Ivy League), which started the weekend with wins over Franklin & Marshall and Dartmouth.
The Big Red wraps up the regular season next weekend. After a Friday evening trip to Princeton, Cornell returns home to host its Ivy League finale against Penn at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12. A non-league match against William Smith wraps up the doubleheader in the team's final match before the College Squash Association's National Championships – the Howe Cup – from Feb. 24-26 in Cambridge, Mass.
